Genis Matel’s journey in healthcare began at Dozier-Libbey Medical High School, where her passion for helping others was shaped by her parents’ careers as a nurse and firefighter. As part of the first graduating class, she excelled academically and was an active soccer captain and a member of Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA), competing in a statewide healthcare team competition.
She pursued Pre-Nursing at San Jose State University and studied at Antillean University in Puerto Rico before earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Kettering Medical College in Ohio. During her training, she precepted in the Surgical ICU and Cardiac Telemetry units.
Professionally, Genis has worked in diverse healthcare settings, including NeuroRestorative, a subacute and postacute rehabilitation facility specializing in critical care for patients with brain and spinal cord injuries
Magellan Rx Management, where she applied utilization criteria to ensure appropriate and evidence-based medication and treatment approvals
and Premier Surgery Center, a busy six-OR multi-specialty ambulatory surgical center covering 10 specialties, where she regularly served as the primary overnight nurse caring for patients requiring advanced monitoring.
Known for her adaptability, leadership, and commitment to patient-centered care, Genis strives to create positive outcomes and build trust with patients and peers alike.
